Rubce
Hi AllHow do you guys recommend fitting the chrome strips to the rear end and rear wings of GT6? I definitely won't be using those horrible barbed clips. Blobs of Silicone sealant or Seam Sealer? Is it worth squirting cavity wax into the trim after the sealant had set?Thoughts please.ThanksBruce
cook1e
Don't know, can't get mine to stay on even with new barbed clips they keep popping up at the front on a long run!
Rubce
Hmmm, I used "Tiger Seal" for the chrome on our Stag. Three years later and they are still firmly in position. The problem will come if I ever need to remove them as I think they will have to be cut off! Bruce
jamie31888
Completely agree with the tiger seal, also keep any water out.I carefully placed some weights wrapped in cloth on the trims overnight , works great.
Velocita Rosso
Fill strip with a grease or similar for long term protectionDrill with a fine drill, the front end and rear end of strips and panel seams, about 1" from each endUsing the smallest pop rivet there is ,then holds the strips in placeDone this with MK3 Spit and GT years ago
Don Cook
I secured one of my strips with silicone sealant. Made sure something was squashed against it to ensure it was properly on.
Hughbert
I have used this with great result http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370353706411?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
RedRooster
Get the best fit you can with or without the clips, then a very small S/S self tapper to hold the edge the clips don't, a smear of waxoyl on everything internal & away you go.RR
Paudman
I had to tape mine while the sealer set; not 100% of a fit but they've stayed on seven years so far. I agree with Redrooster about getting the best fit before gluing or sticking; some of the strips have a different curvature and a spare set I had followed the curve of the wing much better than the original set (wings were replaced) so they were used instead. The clips just ate the new shiny paint and scraped off again. It's much better if they just sit in the correct position rather than having to be forced down.
