cook1e
Glad they've found out that the Forth Road. Bridge is broken now and not next October! It would add a lot of miles and driving time to the route....
Velocita Rosso
Quoted from cook1e Glad they've found out that the Forth Road. Bridge is broken now and not next October! It would add a lot of miles and driving time to the route.... They actually found it was broken ....the day it opened, years agoThe steel wires were faulty and not protected enough and there have been sensors in the inspection panels listening for the strands pingingHence the start of a new bridgeThe timing of the new bridge opening might not be in time (end 2016) as the bridge may close before thenThere is also the infastructure eg link roads to be reconfigured from the old routes to the new So it may be possible that a detour will be in placeHowever.............its a long way off! ferny
All suspension bridges have ping detectors as the wires are always breaking. I sobering thought.I wonder if we'll have to use the ferry next year. I wonder if they plan to put a big enough one into service!

Wilfrid
Or it will make it like the earlier RBRRs when there was a ferry at Ballachulish and it was a toss up whether it was quicker to squirt round Loch Leven or wait for the next ferry! Toledo Man
It should be still open come October. I was up that way in November last year before they had to close it. It has since been reopened to non-HGV traffic so it shouldn't be a problem for the RBRR.
