Deleted User Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 With the upcoming postal strike to look forward to, will we be able to get an entry and pay for it online this year?I don't fancy my entry languishing in some sorting office pile for a couple of weeks.Jim.
Jason Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Ahh, the old "The cheque's in the post" trick! I doubt we will be able to do this but we will consider it
Deleted User Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 Worked last year! ;)Does the RBRR do online bank transfers?Hardly use a chequebook nowadays. The postal strike could cause havoc with the entries if demand is as high as last time.My bet is that it will be even higher now that the number of cars allowed to enter has been reduced. There'll be a lot of whingeing if entries can't get through and a huge headache for you trying to sort it out Jason.Still, I knew if I thought about it for long enough, there would be something to make me feel better! :PJim.
Tim Bancroft Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 We will not post the Entry form on this forum until we are fairly certain that everyone has had their magazine. All payments to be done by cheque-sorry.
sparky_spit Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Use Special Delivery. Costs £4.95 but I'm sure it's worth it.

Deleted User Posted October 14, 2009 Author Posted October 14, 2009 I can see one little flaw with your cunning plan, Mr Bancroft. How do we receive our magazines if there is a postal strike? :-/It could be January before "everyone" has received their magazine.Jim.
thescrapman Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Some of the International members never get their magazines, just get lost in the system.Tim.Set a date, about 2 weeks after you expect the majority of magazines to have been delivered, and say that is the day the entries open.Any entry post marked before that date is rejected.Shimples.Colin
Deleted User Posted October 14, 2009 Author Posted October 14, 2009 Why not just postpone the RBRR entry forms until January when, hopefully, all thoughts of a postal strike will be a distant memory?Jim.
GT6 John Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 It'll sort the truly keen people out from the wishful thinkers, though. If there is a strike on then courier the entry form. It'll cost about £6.50 for the pleasure, but at least it'll be guaranteed to get there.
Tim Bancroft Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Cannot postpone the entry until January as the HCR is due to be announced that month.I don't really see the problem, 100 places surely enough.Remember, in the past 44 years everyone who has wished to take part has got a entry place.
thescrapman Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 I suspect that lots of people who wished to take part last time didn't attempt to enter as they were told it was all sold out after a few days. Also didn't lots of regulars nearly not get a place due to slight tardniness on their parts sending off their entries early after thinking "oh there will still be places in January, there always is"There nearly wasn't.:-)Colin
Tim Bancroft Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Who told them that places were sold out after a few days-maybe better to get a credible answer from either Jase or me?Anyrate, I think most know the situation now!
GT6boy Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Seems straight forward to me: if you want to do it, get your application form in by return of post. Anyone who wants to do it but prevaricates for any reason, only has themself to blame. Any putting back of the application deadline would presumeably increase considerably the workload and reduce the time frame for those volunteers organising it. I'd imagine that the copy for the next Courier issue is pretty much fixed all ready and it may be too late to change the process anyway :-/?

Deleted User Posted October 14, 2009 Author Posted October 14, 2009 Just when is the November issue due out?Club Torque, that is.Jim.
ferny Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I want the entries opened as soon as possible. Gives the person I'm doing it less time to realise what spending 48 hours in a car with me will actually be like! ;DDon't forget that even if the magazine drops through your door some of us won't be able to pop around to the others person and get their formed filled in properly straight away. Which is why we're thinking along the lines of - whoever gets their mag first fills in their details and then scans and e-mails the page to the other person who prints it off, fills in their details and then sends the form off. I can't see why there would be any problem with that. Will there be?
thescrapman Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 ferny wrote: I can't see why there would be any problem with that. Will there be?I tried that, didn't work, has to be an original, not a copy.:-(Colin
Deleted User Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 GT6 John is right! Those of us determined to get an entry will make sure that our forms find their way to Mr Chinn by hook or by crook.I'm not going to let Postman Pat stop me! :PJim.
