Raider
Here's the place for posting info on likely accomodation - camp sites, hotels, beaches you can sleep on, lay-bys you can put the car in whilst you sleep in it etc!Quote:Ventimiglia sounds good to me Paul - would you mind posting a link about the campsites?I'll start a new thread on accomodation for this and the other options. don cook1
I'm pretty sure that some of us, because of the closed road at Menton, ended up in Ventimiglia and it didn't seem too bad. The road out met up with the original route as well!
Raider
In "The day of the Jackal" James Fox crosses into France from Italy at Ventimiglia - he then has to repaint his Alfa.Sad what trivia can surface isn't it? ::)
Burnerboy
As requested here is the link to the camp site information (I hope it works!) If not, all I did was put "Camping Ventimiglia" into Google and browsed around.http://www.paesionline.it/ventimiglia/camping_ventimiglia.asp :)
Burnerboy
Hi all, am having one or two problems wioth posting things here but I will try again (if at first etc) The camp site information I found is at the link below. Around 7 camp sites are shown in and around Ventimiglia, looking at Autoroute they appear to be in a resonable distance of one another so if we did camp here and could not all get on one site we could always split up but still be withing shouting (drinking?) distance.http://www.paesionline.it/ventimiglia/camping_ventimiglia.asp
Raider
I tried a google search Paul and found this http://www.campingroma.ithttp://www.icaro.it/ec/e/im/campingromadilorenzigiancarlo.html- looks fine to me and my kind of budget :)Or - http://www.camping-les-pecheurs.com/index_camp_an.htmbut it's in France and dearer! Tim Bancroft
Doug, Will the GT6 be going? Good luck, I will probably pass you on the run with the self satisfied air of a smug bugger in the saloon (That always seems to be the look I get from big saloon owners on the RBRR, so I feel that I must follow their example). Raider
You'll have plenty of room for the kennel anyway Tim :DWhat do you think about the campsite at Ventimiglia?
Tim Bancroft
Looks good!I have been unable to book my ferry as my co-drivers have not confirmed that they are coming along. Hopefully will be able to before xmas.
Raider
I reckon it looks good too - over 100 pitches so we shouldn't have problems getting in. ;DAlso only 400 metres from the town centre and the sea - should be great for the swim and socialising.I think I'll be booking this one
Deleted User
Yes Tm the GT6 will be going ,have allmost finished rebuilding the gearbox and am halfway through putting the new crank in ,had a little problem with the wrong parts turning up ,like ordering bearing for the gearbox and getting bearing for the engine ,butthat's all sorted now .Hope to have it running in next couple of weeks. Then i,m not sure whether to put a new wiring loom in .The old one has been chopped about so many times and had so many connection to it that it is some times very unreliable{even for a GT6]and whilst most of the interior is still out i thought it might be a good time to do it.Any body had any dealings with this ? how easy would it be ?And as for you thinking you're gonna come cruising by in a saloon ,Pah
Tim Bancroft
Doug,Fitting a new loom to a GT6 is probably not too bad if you take your time, scribble lots of notes down and use a factory wiring diagram. A fair amount of time will be spent lying on your back in the footwells. Always thought it has been an advantage having small hands when contemplating any work to the dash, especially fitting the knurled nuts that hold the speedo and tacho in- what a sod of a job! When fitting the loom work from the dash outwards. Also buy the loom from a reputable supplier- not necessarily a Triumph specialist. Practical Classics mag. has a few loom suppliers listed/advertised.Good luck.
James
Get your loom from here:http://www.autosparks.co.uk/Cheapest place I found - and they're the people that make them for everyone else.A Mk3 Spit one was about £160 I think...James

James
That's a shame, you could have taken the mickey out of the fact I wear driving gloves... ::)I think I'll wear my woven-back pair tonight - rather than the Sparco karting ones... or perhaps I could wear my lamb skins... oh the decision... Greeks
Never one to miss an opportunity!Perhaps you should wear the ear muffs as well - the pink ones, or the glittery ones, though? :P
Jason
It has to be said that this weather is great for top down motoring - the looks I got driving into Reading today to collect the wife from work were excellent! Or was that coz I have plaster in my hair?? Hmmmm DIY - don't you just love it?!
Tim Bancroft
Jase,How long does all this plastering take?
Jason
The plastering has taken 3 weeks to get to this stage and one day to do the ceiling! We'll do the walls in a day tomorrow and then it's drying time and painting thereafter. Then we have to assemble and install the kitchen units, appliances etc do the plumbing, get the electris back togetehr etc etc. It's a long slog and I've missed so many Triumphing opportunities but it'll be cool when it's done - I hope!
