2litre-e
i fancy a new steering wheel, anyone found a particularly nice one, i'm keen to copy at the moment as i'm knackered and don't have the energy to find out what fits what anymore.the cars taking it out of me at the moment. another triumph or after market will do, i'm not fussy, just lazy. :)
willcolumbine
Well I've got the ever popular Mountney but in 12" with black spokes and the horn push modified so it actually works and I like it but there are plenty of others out there to choose from. Just depends on your style and budget I think!

willcolumbine
Nice! That looks cool! I'd love a bit of dish on my steering wheel but with me being 6' 5" it's never going to happen! In fact I need the 12" wheel just so I can get my legs in and I have to drive the thing with one elbow over the side nuvolari style!
smallg
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I really like my Mountney. I reckon the wood wheel with a black dash makes a nice contrast. I was surprised how good it feels in your hands while driving. Plus it doesn't get ridiculously hot in summer or overly cold in winter. IMO one of the best things I've ever done for a car.... seth
This one's from the same period as the car (not a Spitfire I'm afraid ;) )
Deleted User
i like my moutney, leather wheels all the way, would like to go a bit smaller though 14" i think mine is and its just too big.
don cook1
My original wheel was too hard and i started to get blisters on very long runs. It was also too large and I had trouble getting in the car. However, a leather Mountney bought off TSSC fitted perfectly and is very comfortable.
2.5 Chris
8)only thing i dont like is the red buttons.
Tim Bancroft
CJM,Bit too modern though? Surely with alot of the aesthetic mods, they should look of the right period.I like a motolita wheel, both the GT6 and 2.5 have these. Black, no polished spokes. heraldcoupe
Can you currently get Moto-Lita without the rivets showing in the rim? I always thought they looked revolting with the rivets, the old style with the plain wooden rim have far more class. Still can't beat a traditional Nardi though,Cheers,Bill. Tim Bancroft
I have a thing about wooden steering wheels- horrible things as they have no grip and always seem of the wrong rim diameter.
Deleted User
after driving the corvette with a wooden wheel i would never have one on any car, they are scaryly slippy and not nice to drive with on long journeys.
Deleted User
iv never understood all this about wooden wheels? never had an issue with mine......done track days and all sorts and always gripped just fine, same one as pictured near the top. heraldcoupe
I generally prefer smooth steering wheels, leather rims get too sticky in hot weather. I can't bear chunky wheels, rim has to be nice and slim. To each their own,Cheers,Bill.
Deleted User
That's mine, No idea what it is but it's tiny. Not sure if i'll keep it.
willcolumbine
Looks like a mountney 10 or 11" wheel to me! Very popular in the mini world but it might be a bit mental steering a spitfire with one!
parkesie
its a saucer or a cd? Thats one small wheel :)
GazaGt6
i think the wooden steering wheels are nice on triumphs that are before about 1970, i have motalita and i think it looks great but with cars like spitfire 1500's mk3 gt6s etc would suit a leather mountney, although if you keep your car outside and the suns belting down on it you might get a bit of a shock when you touch it! Mj17
I've got a Momo Fighter wheel in my Spit. on a boss from Moss. Will try to get a pic. of it in the car if I get a chance to sneak in to the car park but for now...Still got the wood Mountney wheel/->mid-1500 boss - really should get around to putting it on eBay! (it has only been 2 years).
CharlieB
This is an old style MotoLita, I prefer the smaller centre than the current ones. The boss was NOS & the wheel is new, both off ebay.
CharlieB
Where's this thread gone?Edit: Ok, it's back now. Strange!
lordleonusa
I prefer the original on my Vitesse, it took me a long time to find a good one for sale that wasn't really a Spitfire version, with it's different 'dish'.The stainless steel 'banjo' wires polished up a treat!L
Deleted User
Nothing personal Leon, and to each his own.But I detest those wheels, as I do the large 2 spoke Spit4 and Spit4 Mk2 wheels. The flex and movement the wheel gives is unnerving.Personally, I love my 14" Leather Motolita, and would'nt have anything else from now on!
