    GT6 thermostats

are you certain the car is truely running hot?  You could have a faulty/mismatched gauge/sender unit
  2. I seem to recall my old early 1850 originally had statics. Some early Toledo's too. If they are a complete set, I may be interested. I need a matched pair to fit in the rear of the Sprint. Not happy with the random mixture I have right now. PM sent Cheers Mike

  4. As an almost dead cert marshall this year, I was thinking along similar lines too Mike. I'm thinking of a jolly in the direction to Scotland, travelling in a Triumph obligatory - if so would have a boot full of spares pertaining to it aand plenty of tools anyway!
  5. I'm sure one of Doug & Katie's heralds ran an single H1F   :-/

  7. No, with the onset of the little one, I decided last year not to enter as I could not commit to my usual routine of a solid month in the garage preparing a car, as is my norm!  Nor to spend so much time chasing sponsorship either. As this have turned out so far, it's been easier that expected to juggle my time. However at the time the entries were open I couldn't be sure. I may still offer to jump as a last minute substitute co-driver to anyone needy, however I'm quite warming to the idea marshalling with a couple of relaxed days away!
  8. I have a inkling of a plan - Graham the former owner of my Herald Rally car has extended an open invitaion to me to visit him anytime.  He lives between Edinburgh and Perth. Assuming it's convenient with him, I may be tempted to help at a Scottish halt - he may even be up for it himself too. Need to think about it a bit.    :)
  9. these engines are pretty tough with regards to overheating, pop the block drain plug out (ie. unscrew and remove rather than just open the tap). stick a hose in the water pump hole and flush through until the water runs clear, seeing how much crud comes out. If the engine is out the car anyway, for the sake of 3 new core plugs pop out the ones that are under the exhaust manifold, flush again with the hose - digging any hard crud out with a screwdriver or similar. That should shift the worst of it and give you confidence (or not) in the internal condition of the rest of the core plugs.
  10. How do you get on with the ratios Mark - I have one of these conversion shafts and was seriously considering putting a GT6 box in the rally herald. I worried about 1st being too tall though.
  11. The chances are if the water pump housing is like that then so are the rest of the waterways. A result of running/standing for long periods with no antifreeze. Have you had any overheating issues? If the rad is in good nick and she ran ok, you could take a chance on attacking the waterways you can get to (water pump & rear block drain) with a hose pipe to shift as much loose as you can then just try her on the road.  The other option is to pop a couple of core plugs out to see how bunged up things are behind them. With core plugs out you can flush/dig further
  12. They did - I keep coming across them in my garage sorting of Triumph related tubs.  Used in more than one application, can't remember them all but on a Dolly and a big saloon they are used for holding the anodised ally door tread plates down amongst other things!

    door cards

Sorry don't quite understand - unless you have an ultra rare 4 door herald, then all Heralds/Vitesses were 2 door only.  Front door cards differ slightly between models but all wil fit any other door. The trim cards that go under the window to the side of the back seat also differ a bit, but any saloon will fit any other saloon regardless of model, but the ones for convertibles are a different size/shape.
  14. For a car that's been sitting so long, it's essential to remove the sump to check for sludge/rust debris. Even if you change the oil hot, the sludge is likely to be stiff enough to remain.  If left, as you use the car, the top layer of sludge gets picked up in the oil, blocks the oil filter hence allowing unfiltered oil to pass via the relief valve to the bearings where they are quickly scored and worn. This happened to my Stag after only 9 years. You are having the sump off anyway, drop a couple of the bearing caps off (dont muddle them up) and check the shells, I'll wager you will find them down to the copper   :-/

    GT6 Sump removal.

esxefi wrote:tssc are in the process of getting the sealing block made in steel, don't know if they are ready yet but may well be worth getting one if you are taking the sump off anyway.fit and forget. :) will almost certainly be cheaper to helicoil the ally one you already have - lighter too!
  16. I take it you mean a 16V TR7? The Sprint lump should drop staight in with no clearance issues
  17. After 20+ years of welding rusty old cars, I still can't weld as neatly as that - what's the secret?   :-/
  18. not that it makes any difference to me - but didn't Tim send a email recently that said there would be a small admin fee?  Or have I lost the plot again?   :-/
  19. Cricket bat?  I thought I'd recognised the Hughbertmobile  ;D Best wishes and Happy New Year, Hugh!
  20. Looks like I'm mising a fun event.  With the sun now out but following the overnight rains, conditions must be ace!
  21. I use tractor enamel from the local agricultural supplier. Good range of colours, durable finish and easily mixed to change a shade. For example on the Stag which is an orange shade of Pimento, I found that an approx 50/50 mix of Case Tractor Red and Howard Rotavator Orange is a damn good match for inside and underneath (see my blog, linked below).  Of course if you have a decent coat of paint insode the floorpan, it will be much better at keeping any water that may get in, away from the metal!
  22. Check with Mike that it's running first. Not many entries this time - I'm at work and it looks like no-one else is allowed out!   :-/
