  1. guys have we tried rolling the car backwards and forwards after it's been jacked up to allow the spring to settle, without rereading the whole thread i'm not sure it's been done
  2. when I built my engine I got the local engineering guy to machine the rear main bearing cap, http://www.ocservice.co.uk/services/balancing, I live near Winchester Hants. then I measured the crank end float, told him what size thrust washers I wanted, I forget what material he used I know it's a soild bronze of sorts, Then when fitting them I drilled and tapped the mains cap and used a counter sunk brass screws to hold them in place as you can see in the photos, they are not going to fall into the sump any time soon ! I also remember keeping the tolerance very tight, I got the idea from these people https://customthrustwashers.com I feel it's a much better solution than the standard set up, so mine are 360 deg's both sides of the mains cap, an over kill may be, but I know they aren't going to wear out any time soon,
  3. Tim I hope you considered the full 360 deg option for your new thrust washers, I hope mine will out last me
  4. I used these FreeLander units https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-TVF100000P1 on my Mk3 GT6

    Paint!

When i started the restore on my GT6 I used https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122473698488?hash=item1c840054b8:g:msAAAOSw1eBgQSaO on bare metal it turns black /dark Blue and is perfect for over painting, however when I finished repairing the car I took the body and bits to https://paint-strip.co.uk/car-restoration/ for the full body treatment, they were very helpful and carried out a totally outstanding job, would I use them again, TO BLINKING RIGHT. two photo's before and after the chassis was stripped repaired and galvanised then powder coated body colour and wax-oiled inside (maybe an over kill) but better safe than sorry
  7. Heaven forbid driving in the snow, if there is a cloud in the sky the GT6 stays in the garage
  8. I also used H&H Lee rebuilt my old dizzy and converted it with his little brown leccy box inside, also to suit my engine's spec, he is very helpfull on the phone, or drop in and see him (take the chocolate biscuits) and have a chat
  9. I used Duncan at https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/collections/headlight-led-bulbs/Headlight-Bulbs-&-Adapters he's a great help and the mot guy has never complained about the bulbs, I fitted mine way back in 2016, and since I have upgraded all our cars and my bike, they are a vast improvement
  10. I am looking for a new tailgate seal (not the glass to tailgate) for my GT6 Mk3, I was looking towards https://coh-baines.co.uk/product-category/classic-car/triumph/ advice please Fitchett's, Rimmer's, Canley's ?
  11. Great new site, however I seem to have lost all my old post's, and when I search my user name and email all I get is no content found I could be being a numpty, i think uploading a pic is realy very simple now, well done guys !
  12. Mot Fail If You Have Converted To Led  Just seen this link on the Ducati Forum  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/special-notice-01-21-headlamp-conversions/mot-special-notice-01-21-headlamp-conversions
  13. I'd try using a junior hack saw and gently follow the thread round, start lower on a good part and slowly work your way up, just gently two or three strokes at a time slowly spinning the shaft or look on Ebay for a thread file https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=thread+file+unf&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=thread+file i'm not sure how many TPI the thread is, all you have to do is measure 1/2" of thread and count them then double the number for threads per inch
  14. I remember once upon-a-time my work shop looked clean and tidy like yours, THEN two of my daughters left thier partners and all thier shit was plonked in dads garage, I walked in the other day to find HORROR a patio table lent against the GT6 !!!!!
  15. Hi guys have a quick look here https://cjautosheywood.co.uk/product-category/car-lifts/ when I restored my GT6 I added some jacking points on the rear, under the beer can, and on the front out riggers added a couple of bridging parts so the out riggers can be used to jack on
  16. I have a mk3 Gt6 mine has the same holes also, I have a heated rear screen, and the holes are not used, I suspect they are what we call tooling hole's used in the manufacture of the tail gate, if you sit in the car and look out the front both bottom corners of the windscreen surround have them about 100 mm up
  17. Tom if your in the Hampshire area pop into OCS Winchester they can sort all you crank problems and supply you with new shells http://www.ocservice.co.uk/services/crankshaft
  18. looking at Rimmer's site I see there is more than one choice of head gasket ? have you got the correct one, Could the timing be 180 deg out, have you tried pulling one lead off at a time to check that they are all firing,

    Rusting chrome

I painted Hammerite paint on the rear of both bumpers and I use Autosol polish on the nice shiny bit
  20. Yes it's better with the body off, I don't know about your hand brake but on my GT6 it was easier to fit the hand brake assy before the body is dropped onto the chassis
  21. I binned the old one and fitted https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-147876 https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/malpassi-petrol-king-fuel-pressure-regulator-king-pet https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/facet-silver-top-electric-fuel-pump-kit-5-0-6-0-psi-fac-st-kit?pn=FAC-ST-KIT https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/fuel-filter-glass-chrome-with-8mm-hose-tails and never looked back
