I know i'm opening a can of worms, but what are the best ..

Mintex or Green Stuff ?  :)

Got some new disc brakes for mine yesterday at a triumph event, got them cheaper then at paddocks.
And because wanted new discs, new (better) pads ..

So what are the best for a daily car ?  :)

Mintex in the Herald. Currently using asbestos though which are better but not exactly easy to get.
Acclaim is running EBC Ultimax which are the best I've found for it. However, choice is limited so no posh pads are available for it and they fade as well.

Some people like Greenstuff. I don't. At all. Nope.

I bought some grooved and dimpled disks which work best with Greenstuff and similar pads. Greenstuff  give off gasses when under pressure and grooved disks dispel the gas. Mintex don't give off gas and are fine with plain disks. I bought some Mintex 1144s, they are better. Anybody want some grooved and dimpled disks?  ;D

But there is a list of cars the pads fit, so they may be available in Belgium??

From my experience with the 4A I agree M1144 every time versus Greenstuff in terms of bite from cold and pedal feel. However, I have Rossini cross drilled and grooved discs and with the 1144s I could never cure a squealing during light check braking whatever I tried. I switched to Ferodo DS Performance pads and they completely cured the problem, being as quiet as the proverbial church mice. I don't know about the smaller chassis cars but the 4A pad deign is exactly the same as that used on many 70s Fords, Ferodo reference 167. best price was from Burton Power, (www.burtonpower.com).  I just had to enlarge the guide pin holes slightly to cater fir the larger Imperial pins on my callipers. If anything the bite is better than with the 1144s and performance from cold is excellent.
Retardation is more like that of a modern car.

Wim...Mintex 1144 are ace, they are a good all-rounder pad as they work from cold, and bite very well in all conditons.... like OEM modern pads and for your style of driving IE the odd spirited drive, they will out perform any other cheaper pads, without brake fade unless you REALLY hammer them then they will suffer from brake fade as you are using solid not vented discs.....but they recover very quickly without after effects like 'cooking' IE glazing, as the older asbestos pads or cheap 'cardboard' pads do .....rendering the pads useless.

They do produce quite alot of dust tho, be prepared to clean your shiny Revs after a run.... ;)

Greenstuff pads are OEM quality, very good for normal use but push them and they overheat and brake fade will happen, the same as standard Mintex MGB533.
Redstuff pads are 1144 quality IE higher ceramic compound than OEM....and around the same price as the 1144's: http://www.ebcbrakeshop.co.uk/triumph-1500-15-721973-ebc-brakes-redstuff-pads--front-dp3106c_p1169681.htm

I had the same problem with the part number when i ran standard calipers/discs, they HAVE to be 'Mintex MGB533 with 1144 compound', not just 'MGB533'... these are just standard Mintex OEM grade pads....good... but dont stand a hammering.

All brake materail manufascturers produce different batches fro diffrent purpose.  For cars it deoebds on the ehat that they must stand.     A 'hotter' material will not work so well when cool, so some who misguidely use them on public roads complian of a lack of feel and poor braking, becasue the poor pads never get up to working heat.

Mintex 1144 are excellent for road and all round use, but they do a 1155 mentioned above, that is a 'hotter' material, but still grips and 'feels' well for road use.   I use no other!

Above , it was said that Green Stuff pads are suited to drilled and grooved discs, "because they give off gases".  A serious misunderstanding.    The compound that is brake materail and the adhesive that attaches it to the metal backing, does give offvapours when heated.  The objective of "Bedding in" pads is to raise them to the highest heat expected, for long enough to expell all such vapours.  Thereafter, no vapours should be produced, excpet for the air heated around the contact area.

If anyone hs Green Stuff pads and feel that they must have grooved discs, they would do better to properoly 'bed-in' the pads.

Cant find the report on the compounds but i think EBC Greenstuff met OEM standards with just 15% more ceramic compound than EBC Ultimax which is OEM standard, which is marketing fun...Redstuff is almost 1144, Yellowstuff is almost 1155 compound, Bluestuff is track only and Orangestuff is pro race.

Grooved discs help clean the pad of glaze and gasses, modern quality OEM non asbesdos pads dont glaze or gas, they are ceramic based so never glaze.

Holed discs increase gas escape, modern pads dont need holes to gas as they dont gas.

We are talking race or very fast road disc applications here and the drilled grooved discs using ceramic based performance pads in normal use .....useless overkill, just vented discs are needed ...........but grooved drilled discs do look very sporty  ;)

i've noticed the cheap pads give a lot of dust also, so i'm used to it  ;D

Got a shaky brake pedal for the last 2 weeks sometimes, so the discs are a bit bend !
Maybe next weekend the big change  ;)

And has someone got the instructions to bed them in ?  :)
