jeffa3
Has anyone had a problem with a weak tailgate spring?Mine won't keep the tailgate up, keeps dropping back to 1/4 openAre they adjustable? I can see a joining sleeve on the spring with grubscrews attatching it.I dont want to remove it yet until I have an idea about how to put it right but can't find anything about it on the web. Thanks if anyone can help

jeffa3
Yeh, thats what I thought to be honestNot sure if you can even buy new spring, doubt it. Might have to make do or tie some balloons to it :)

Tim Bancroft
Carry a piece of 1 x 1'' timber?

I will have totake it off to compare. Will probably leave this till winter.
Richard B
You might find a spring manufacturer who will remake them.I had a return spring made of my 40 year old (but good) pillar drill, not cheap but worth it. :-/
Tim Bancroft
I'd go for the timber!Flippant answer, but it works!

rotoflex
If standing behind the car you exhale hard enough while facing the front of the car, you will create a lower-pressure area to generate lift for the tailgate as long as you're exhaling. RedRooster
Turn the car upside down, let gravity assist the spring.

jeffa3
Have managed to put slightly more tension into spring by moving the clamp position on the spring, tailgate stays up now but still weak, reckon another clamp on spring would possibly do the trick :)
cnicholson
simple answer is remove the filler from the rotten seam around the bottom of the tailgate?? it will fly open then.(that was the problem with one of my GT6's anyway..... :B)
