mazfg
Just wondered what the threads are for the switch and the thread in the engine block, as mine goes to a t-piece that also feeds my oil pressure gauge, but the t-piece has an adaptor on it before it attaches to the engine block?Unfortunately, my t-piece stick out to much and ideally I'd like to fit it to an elbow so it vertical and not horizontal, anyone know where to get a 90degree elbow from? timraven
1/8" NPT rings a bell, not 100% thoughThat's what I remember for the 4 pots,Dunno if the 6 pots are different
Nick Jones
I think you'll find it's 1/8" BSP(T).Nick
nang
1/8'' NPT but BSP will fit, only one TPI different, 27 against 28.Tony.

mazfg
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170747604159?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649I bought this one in the end....came today and tried it. By hand it only screws in a little to the engine block(adaptor) , I was told this ebay tpiece is 1/8" NPT...although it was mentioned it should fit?I was hoping to turn this piece into an elbow. Was going to plug up the end with a grub screw and then attach my old T-piece to the top of this and use it that way.The T-piece fits fine into the top of this though.....on examination original T-piece I have tapers in more than this new T-piece..... mazfg
So, can someone clarify the pressure switch and engine block thread as BSP(T) or NPT?
bxbodger
It's 1/8 NPT, that's what's stamped on my pretty ancient gauge adaptor which fits fine.
mazfg
Hum, Id hoped it'd be BSP, as NPT is American...damn....
junkuser
."on examination original T-piece I have tapers in more than this new T-piece.."Unfortunately that is a very annoying fact of life with tapered threads.Even more annoying when the taper on the male has been run too far in some circumstances. Is there someone that can loan a die to Mazfg? mazfg
Bought an 1/8" NPT t-piece to try now...hopefully it'll work :)
mazfg
This seemed to do the jobs. Existing oil pressure switch fits and also the little adaptor for the oil pressure gauge too...I did use some PTFE too, but all good, fits better than the 1/8" BSP I had before....1/8" NPT it is...... mazfg
Still would like to know what the thread size is on the engine block...as this is the first adaptor before the T-piece that takes it to 1/8" NPT female thread......?
nang
1/8" NPT !
mazfg
nang wrote:1/8" NPT !That's after the adaptor.. the engine block is something else, bigger and courser thread.
That Man
I must admit i thought all triumph 4/6 cylinder engines were the same, but after a bit of research it appears the mk1 1600 engine uses a threaded adapter in the block to then take the 1/8" NPT (PN 129889) this uses a copper washer to seal so it may be just a UNF thread ?Gordon
mazfg
Yep, got a copper washer on mine...the thread is quite course..maybe UNC?
