I was admiring your car before going for breakfast and hope I didn't cause offence by taking the sneaky picture later as it was being loaded on the recovery truck but I needed some pictures of broken down cars to convince some of my sponsors over how demanding this event is :) I've got some of it on the event as well whilst it was running Ok if you would like those! You might have gone by the time the AA man had helped be open the bonnet of my magenta TR6. I am now an expert on overcoming this problem. In fact I'm tempted to not to use the cable and use the AA technique just to add to the challenge. Well, maybe not. Any pics would be gratefully received.  Cool to be able to put a face to a forum member 8) 8) 8)

We departed the Plough for the premier inn and on the way the car started making the most horrible noise.  I had a weird clutch pedal and assumed it was the clutch release bearing finally giving up.  We made it into the hotel car park to be meet with a temp gauge off the scale and the water boiling!!  We think it's the water pump that seized so I locked the car and went for a shower, food and beer!!  The next morning we all had a quick look and while checking the clutch pedal noticed the crank pulley moving a good 1mm in relation to the clutch pedal.  The decision was then made to call recovery as I didn't fancy risking thrust washers falling out on the drive home.  Must be the latest RBRR car failure in history!

  8. cliftyhanger wrote:No rubber on the pulley. At least not on the ones I have here..... Be good if somebody could get a batch of the sheet steel trigger wheels made up, ideally with the opening a snug fit on the pulley I'm your man Clive.  Did a batch for the 6 cylinder engines a while ago.  Just need a 4 cylinder pulley sending to me for reference.
  9. Our local paper coming on Wednesday morning to photograph the car ready for print on Thursday 8) 8)
  10. On the Gt6 I bolted it the engine fan boss. This does mean that the trigger wheel is on the front of the pulley and if I need to change the fan belt I will need to remove the sensor to do so. I had the crank balanced with the wheel in place but didn't position it.  sods law says that when I came to fitting the Vr sensor the wheel needed to be rotated about 80deg .  This hasn't affected the balance as far as I can tell.

Dash out to fit a light in the heater controls 8) 8) Carpets out to fit my "secret audio" stereo that fits in the boot and has a remote wired into the dash(very cool) Also tided up a load of wiring from the EFI install just because I could.  Tunnel and dash are now back in and I shall have the carpets and seats in tomorrow.  looks much worse that it is

The MK3 had finished before then The flange on the diff output shaft is smaller than the later models as normally, the MK3 had a 4:11 diff as standard. With later diffs on later Spitfires, being of different ratio the flanges were increased in size The flange on the half shaft is changeable, but the yoke comes complete with the half shaft when new However the yoke is fitted to splines and held by a dowel pin If careful you can drift out the pin ,knock off the yoke and change the yoke ,but when fitting a new dowel into the new yoke onto an old shaft may mean its slightly out of line(as the dowel hole is drilled and pin fitted when assembled ) come on Mike keep up :P :P :P 8)

  21. If you are going to wrap the exhaust make sure you soak the bandage in water before wrapping.  This avoids the glassfibres filling the air and your lungs and also stretches the bandage a little so when it dries it shrinks and tightens on the manifold.
  22. new GAZ rear shocks fitted today.  Checked the rear brake pads and they are getting low so the run should see them off, then i can dump the green stuff and replace with mintex 1144's removed the ball joint from the adjustable top wishbone I installed in March this year.  Looks like premature failure of this unit so Dave from Canleys should be bringing me a replacement tomorrow 8) 8) Hoping this will sort out the brake judder!!
