Quoted from Fred_Slezak Too true trackerjack - btw - i don't suppose there is any footage you could post or am I asking too much...? (I wouldn't nkwo how to that's for sure!) But it would be great to see the Sprint in action!

I would love to Fred, I am a useless person where computers are concerned so if someone can show me I will.

At the moment its on tape and disc but the computer refuses to read it.

Excellent! Glad that you have as much fun with technology as I do Jon :) Still - I bet it's good viewing!

Mr Sideways as a co-driver... hmmm... now there's a thought... but Dave I don't think my car would stand up to it... - I'm rubbish enough to them... and I've have now totally broken the purple 1300 - engine's given up - failed thrust washers... :( - so only the white one (and the sloooow saloon) is left!

I think you should petition lots of people and co-drive a selection of cars...

On the radio today a guy complained that he had just been cut up by a hearse.
That set me thinking that in the unlikely event of Dave Sideways out living me ............I want him to drive me to the cemetry or chargrill as I had this impression of the coffin and flowers sliding all over the place and all the following cars all up on two wheels as they try to keep up! ;D ;D ;D

I would let you drive it (Sprint) Dave but it only just copes with Diane & I.
Some years ago I crashed heavily at Goodwood in a friends TR5.......................I had to sell my Stag to pay for it.......ouch.

Well I have to say one thing - driving fast does not mean knackering the car...

I have spent many miles being a passenger with Dave - he is an excellent driver - and if anything I think good driving is LESS wearing on a car.

For a start the number of people that change down a gear without heel-toe - makes me cringe! Think of your synchros! Constantly being on your brakes and wearing down your pads? Locking up wheels and putting flat spots in your tyres..... pointless wheel spinning... all adds up to knackering your car!

Quoted from ferny

I didn't think you were allowed numbers on your car if you use it on the road? That they had to be crossed out at the least?

Yes and no...

I believe that is an MSA rule for race cars rather than an actual legal requirement. And the actual wording calls for race numbers to be "covered", not just crossed out although whenever I've seen race cars driven to a circuit, a strip of insulation tape is usually as "covered" as they get. I've certainly driven the race car on the road with the numbers "crossed out".

You see James how easy it is to get the wrong end of the stick!
How bad are you then?
I felt like a right prat when I pranged Johns car because at the time it had just been featured in Thoroughbred & Classic magazine and worse John was watching!!!
We had two young children and I had to phone Diane to tell her to advertise the Stag to pay for it.
I was offered drives in Carrera Porsche and all sorts but always declined due to the fact that I might prang one again.............but these days I am not so fierce and red mist is kept at bay.
Sorry but I thought your comments inferred I was knocking Dave.
Roll on March.

Blimey Jon, I witnessed that prang at Goodwwod, about 1984 was'nt it?

Remember thinking that there was some kind of grudge going on between you and Mr Ginger. I seem to remember one of you doing a doughnut to line the car up on the grid. My buddies Bill Haseldine and Jon Stevens were sprinting their Vitesse that day- it was a top day
I seem to remember a superb mk1 escort owned by a chap called John Hershay was there, the Escort was turbocharged and when he backed off the gas massive flames would come out of the exhaust- most spectacular in the fading light.

Maybe one year a few of us should consider taking up sprinting- it still seems a relativel;y cheap form of motorsport.

Naw no grudge it was just the fact that Mr Ginger seemed so cocky but with a PI motor set back in the chassis it should have run rings round the TR which was by todays standards lightly modified to fast road spec.
Did you see me crying as well Tim?
John heard two guys say oh well John Gray wont mind he has pots of money.
Year is right Tim.
John took my Stag round in 1min 44.
We were both loned up for a win till I!!!!

Dave, Jon, James, Tim

Believe it or not I was actually contemplating letting Mr Sideways have a session in my car too - but not suggesting he share the day with me because a) I'm too selfish and want as much track time to myself and b) it's coming up to two years ago that I heavily crashed the 2.5 on the motorway and spend £6k putting it back together... so yes I'm a girl and yes I'm very precious about the car!

Re the car wrecking thing... its not meant as an insult... David fondly refers to me a car wrecker... :) Well - I just tell him I'm helping to keep him busy! (He's not impressed...) And in my opinion - on the few track days that I have done - I seem to wear bits out on cars faster using them on the circuit - than for example a spirited drive over to and at Le Mans.... or taking the car anywhere else on the continent...

Dont misunderstand me Fred I was merely pointing out my own circumstances.
Someone like Dave driving your car would give you a lot of experience in learning what your car is cabable of, because he will, within a couple of corners work out where your car needs improving, if at all. You might of course be brilliant and not benefit.
He would not, despite being fast be harder on the car than someone less experienced at going fast.
I have been in the car with drivers who are not constant  on revs or corner speed, tis better to be 80% everywhere than 100% on some corners and 50% on others!
Dave is very welcome to drive mine but not share all day.
I would actually want him to for I know I will learn from him.

Be good to see you caning one of the cars, Richard- which one?

Where have you sent the cheque- To Fred's I hope.

I've done loads of work on the GT6 today- should get the brazillian diff and suspension back in tomorrow.

Then got to lob the gearbox back in- then its time to see if my new gearbox cover fits- bet it does not- happy days eh!

I hope to use the 2.5PI Mk III Spitfire. Although I'm sure it will be slower than these mid-engined Super-Spitfires, it will be interesting to compare. As I'm a complete and utter novice on the track, I'm sure I'll be slow and cautious :)

I'd like to get the CV conversion installed and a pair of Koni's for the rear by then.

But I'm still playing with the Stag and the MkII PI Saloon. One of them should make the TSSC SEM (May - Leatherhead)............
