WIMPUS
Hi everyone, I'm looking for an oil (transfer)pump to get oil into the gearbox and diff on my spitfire. I had a Draper one, but the seal failed after using it 5 times. Then i bought something else, failed halfway filling up the diff... So what do other use to fill up ? Or what type/brand of pump? Regards, Wim
iggy
well i dont use a pump on my mk2 saloon just 4ft length of 3/8" clear plastic tube which i run down from the bulk head in the engine bay into the gearbox filling hole with a funnel in the other end, for the rear diff i remove the drivers side rear wheel jack the car up further and sqeeze the oil into the diff with the bottle it came in, this might not work on a spitfire though, ive not looked for an electric pump that would cope with the thick gear oil but have seen what look like 2" dia bike pump for injecting oil🙂
Clive
I use an oil can like this https://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-equipment/garage-essentials/laser-oil-can-500cc?cm_mmc=Google+PLA-_-Garage+Equipment-_-Garage+Essentials-_-589160&istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istItemId=ximmmxxil&istBid=tzti&_$ja=tsid:94971|cid:1537737348|agid:57846660479|tid:pla-329586866073|crid:291898457477|nw:g|rnd:9669977839302902234|dvc:c|adp:1o4|mt:|loc:1006812&gclid=Cj0KCQiAkMDiBRDNARIsACKP1FGmfTHT2wu4xZT2VYaiZgsKL6tCwEiSJUFzSdsw8gCWnY2BqqNzzucaAuQxEALw_wcB but mine has a metal spout. I cut teh nozzle off, and pushed a length of clear plastic tube on, aboy 300mm long. It pumps gear oil easily enough, though if empty you do get thumb ache after a bit. This weather keep the oil on a radiator to get it warm before using.
sparky_spit
For the gearbox I use the tube on the squeezy bottle that the oil comes in, through a hatch cut in the tunnel. For the diff I pump it in using a plunger action oil can. It takes quite a while but does give your thumb a good work-out...
RobPearce
I use an old "killaspray" weed killer sprayer (hand pumped pressure vessel) with the spray head removed.
thescrapman
I have a giant syringe with a pipe on it. Like this but I didn't pay that much https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/laser-5699-1-5-litre-multipurpose-oil-transfer/
Hogie
Hi Wim, I use this https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cgg500-500cc-oil-suction-gun/ Similar to the draper but it has lasted a few years now with GB and diff oil. I'm not to keen on Draper products. Roger
