RedRooster
Hi, i've been trying to get the chrome windscreen finisher to fit on to a new rubber seal on my Mk3 GT6 to no avail, is there an easy way to do this?
GreenV8Machine
put it on prior to install. you will need a handle with a small hook on it for teasting the lip of the seal round the trim.
Fizzy
i done mine on my spit on the car. i just used lots of washing up liquid and persuasion from the handle end of a softwood mallet. and my thumbs. i pushed a lot of it in with my thumbs, and they ached. they ached a lot. the only bit i didnt get quite right was round the corners of the seal, was hard trying to get them not to 'crease'. unless i was doing it all wrong ! RedRooster
It is an evil fit, i've just bought a trim tool which has various bent wire bits, so maybe that will work. Though i can see my 16year restoration dragging on a bit more yet.
TimW
The easiest way is to get someone else who knows how to do it and watch them with beer in hand!! This worked very well for me!! ;D
THe Maestro
I put a C shaped one on my Mk3 GT6 after installing the windscreen. I tried the 'before' method but couldn't get it to work at all. I used a special tool which I'll try to find a picture of later and a toothbrush handle that I'd sanded down into a blunt blade type thing. Was actually very easy once I got the knack. Much easier than putting a windscreen in which took me hours.
RedRooster
Maestro, a picture of the tool would be great. I really want to get the car finished this winter, it's been in bits far too long.
CharlieB
I used a bent bit of wire. It worked but it took some time!
GT6DavidMK1
I have no problem fitting them, though years of practice helps :P can fit them in less than 5 minutes ;) So if your in the area and want to call in to the garage, very small charge to fit :)David. RedRooster
Thanks for the offer David, but it's not really cost effective. Would i be better fitting the chrome strip before or after in your opinion?

RedRooster
Well managed to get the front & rear screens in today 16 years after i took them out, so prgress on the GT6 at last, had another futile go at fitting the front chrome strip, i was starting to get annoyed with it, so called it a day & having a beer instead :-)Any suggestions on how to get the trim surround fitted? James1500
would a lacing tool assist the fitment? we use them at work for glazing, should open the rubber up for you to fit the trim, found one on ebay quickly but this is expensive, we use one tool with changeable ends :)http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FRANKLIN-Diamond-Lacing-Tool-Windscreen-Rubber-Fit-Set-/160455723245?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item255be808ed
RedRooster
I've got a similar tool but its a bit chunky to fit under the trim. The rubber moulding angle seems to close up the opening gap so that the trim doesn't want to slide under easily, is there a particular way of putting the trim on?
