  1. Mike I have no doubt he is totally serious. And will be at the startin the Herald. I think the "stretch" build in 2002 was before you became a forum regular. that was even bigger (literally! ) and in as shorter time frame. Half the Triumph community ws holding their breath and following every days work. It got to the start but had propshaft issues going up the A1. Did do teh 10CR in 2003 after a bit of fettling. I think he took a bit longer over some of the other cars he re-commissioned. The RBRR and 10CR make very good excuses to sort out cars. Worked for Mr Bishop as well in the past. Cheers Colin
  2. lagerzok wrote:That should free off any TR6 seized piston rings and cobwebs off the redline ... LOL J I can confidently say that running a 2.5 at approx 1inch past the redline constantly does not do it any good.... :-( So don't do it, and don't let Nigel do it either... Teach him teh pleasure of torque. Getting airbourne whilst doing inch past redline was fun though... :-)
  3. Alex wrote:My map light arrived today :'( I asked for a 12" switched light and got told that all theres have switches but an 18" has arrived.Having now checked the website they dont appear to do the 12"......18" is just to big for a spitfire so now need to call them and see what they say :( They've sent you an 18inch diameter map Light   ??) ??) ??) It must be like a big bucket! Do you wrap the map round the inside and put it over your head?? Would certainly reduce the leakage to teh drivers side. Cheers Colin
  4. What do the arches on the Del Lines cars look like?? Did they keep the flat top edge? The round arches don't look as bad as I thought they would! Once they are all body coloured it will probably be un-noticeable. Cheers Colin
  5. My tank has now been out and back in, all pipework blown through and a second fuel filter fitted. Vinyl back seat fitted ready as the blankets that cover the (shagged) back seat are very scratchy when you try to sleep on them. Still to sort.. Oil change. Top up fluids correct headlight aim (not sure why it is suddenly out) fit new front seats if I get time. Check propshaft for source of noise and vibration (has been there quite a few years now) Build spare driveshaft as new rear bearings have not yet been proven. Change coil I think..... :-) Colin
  6. Afternoon Graham Can we have a side shot?? I'm struggling to visualise it without the flat at the top. Cheers Colin
  7. There are 2 different widths of TR6 wheels I think. 5.5J and 6J. I think. Keep it short shaft and they will always fit. Cheers Colin
  8. I'm impressed by the size of the Spill Kit outside your garage door. I knew my Triumphs were a bit leaky, yours must be a gusher.... :-)
  9. I noticed this morning that there has been quite a few cars drop out recently, entry is down to 100 I think from an accepted 115-odd Is this a sign of things to come?? :-( Colin

  13. Well I have broken the No1 car again, unfortunately after raiding some parts off the No2 car to prove a minor issue. :-( Tank and all the plumbing in the boot is coming out asap. :-( :-(
  14. Don't do like I did on the 10CR and fit reclining seats and not test that they can actually recline. mine hit the hood frame. In a 2 seater try to have a kip in the passenger seat, then make adjustments to make sure you can. Pillows, eye shades, ear plugs, blanket etc. I have heard reports of people using sleeping bags on both sides with the drivers feet poking out the bottom for the long cold night sections with the roof down... :-) Cheers Colin
  15. Not bad prices considering what you are getting. And shifting a few of thiose will bring in a few pennies. Cheers Colin
  16. Perhaps I was being pessimistic. Just try to use teh car as much as you can. Mine was ready at the beginning of July, the diff and a rear bearing failed at the beginning if July whlst I was putting some more miles on it. Halfords is where you are likely to get the shoddy points and condensors don't forget. Buy a red rotor arm from a specialist. and pack a couple of old condensors as they are likely to last longer than a modern one. New caps are OK I think. I would definatley check a spare fuel pump, yours has probably not run for more than a couple of hours continuously. Regrease the front bearings. Can't do any harm, just don't overtighten them afterwards. Check the list of previous failures, that should give a few clues. Lamintaed windscreen (or lack of) is a killer. Lots of alternators fail. Wheel bearings as well. Cheers Colin
  17. Oh, and wheel bearings. TR6's have pissy little front ones, so pack some spares. Even better, pack a ready built hub and a stub axle. Quick change then. Whether you want  to pack a complete rear drive shaft is your decision. Cheers Colin
  18. pack a tested spare fuel pump or 2. and a PRV if you have one. My pump burnt out after 9 hours in 2008. Change to halogen headlights. pack a spare (tested) alternator. By testing I mean fit them now and put the others in the boot. That way they get 5-odd weeks test. You can live without an Overdrive, just gets thrashy. If you have not done it, remove the wiper rack and fully re-grease it, the wipers may be running for many hours continuously. Or buy a bottle of Rainex... :-) Cheers Colin
  19. Can only be TLD. Selling 3 boxes, one of the others is a Spitfire box with GT6 ratios in it. Intersting to see what prices they make. Cheers Colin
  20. Julian TR6 steels fit Mk1 2000's and if lucky a selected few Mk2's. The offset is too far out so they hit the arches. You may get away with them with very skinny tyres (165-15) Cheers Colin
  21. Quentin. See if you can pick up a set of 14inch stag steels, or even a set of 14inch 2.5S wheels, opens up a whole world of decent quality tyres at affordable prices. A quick bit of checking shows late ('75) 2500TC's had 185-13 tyres, even rarer than 175-13 tyres. If you want to stick with 13inchers, 175/70-13 gives plenty of choice, there are some Kumho's for about £35 a corner. Cheers Colin
  22. The stretch is long gone I suspect, It was bought to take the plate off it, the new owner probably had no interest in the car itself. Whether he ever got the plate off is another matter as the car needed work for an MOT, and there isn't exactly a lot of stretched Heralds about to do a swift swapperoonie of chassis plates with as is usual for plate dealers. :-( Colin
  23. what do the brakes feel llike if you clamp off both rear hoses? If still crap, clamp both front ones as well, then you should have no pedal movement at all. Cheers Colin
  24. Was the friction plate in back to front?? That can give lots of slipping, well it certaainly did on a spitfire. The plate inner just started to touch the flywheel so the springs could not clamp it tightky enough, but didn't start for a few thousand miles. Then got worse and worse. Luckily the engine was missing about 50bhp so it didn't matter too much! Cheers Colin
