LadyScrumpy
HiCurious. Why do people put alloy rocker covers on race cars/hillclimbers....etc?I can't see ANY performance advantage...it just seems purely aesthetic.Any comments?

andy thompson
Theoretically if installed correctly they are less prone to leakage - however they are way heavier - original is fine if you use decent cork washers and aftermarket silicon rubber gasket helps too
smithy
It's not the only justification, but they're quieter, supposedly. Stop those noisy intrusive tappets annoying you. (Cuts it down to just the timing chain).
Deleted User
Agree with all the above - it makes it look more racey I guess. Not my cup of tea really, and definately heavier, hence quieter - more mass to vibrate. Well, something to do with frequency orders that I can't be bothered with now.I have never found one to seal well compared to a straight original tin one with good gaskets. Deleted User
my alloy cover on my 1300 engine had no problems with sealing , it looked tons better than the standard steel unit. So looks.Rob
Nick Moore
To stop oil leaks, quieter the rattle tappets you can't be bothered to adjust, and then there's the amazing blingy attraction of polished alloy. Bling is a poorly understood art. For instance, polished alloy = good, chrome = trying too hard (unless Triumph chromed it, in which case it's a touch of genius). ferny
Mine was free and (was also) shiny. Clearly it made my car faster the second I fitted it.
DGF
the one i had was all nice and shiny but the cork gaskets didn't fit it very well ..so it leaked.. made my own up and it was fine ..but other than adding a bit of bling to the engine :-/
Jason
I thought that in the case of Triumphs, the standard cover won't fix over roller rockers but I may be wrong (having neither an alloy cover nor roller rockers!)
Dicky Blighter
Shiny 8)Use a self adhesive neoprene foam gasket (works on standard cover as well) = no leaks and stays in place when you take cover off and re-usable.
oil_on_the_carpet
One can never have enough bling. You could ask, why red plug leads? Are they faster than black ones?
Deleted User
mine was gloss black with fins, so not bling but it did look good :)
