Isn't it fuel leaking from the radiator?  :X ...

Luckily not, had the radiator tested today by a local radiator re-conditioner, and it turned out there are two leaks, at the top and one on each side of the core.
And according to them it's a manufacturing fault, so I contacted the supplier but that didn't sound very hopeful  :o (to be continued)

Luckily they also pointed me to a local alloy fabricator.
And as time's running out I made an appointment with them for tomorrow morning,
see if they can knock a proper one together before the event  :-/

There's always plan B, put an old radiator in or plan C ...

Some win, some lose......

Win:
- Clutch seems to be working properly now having reduced master cylinder size -turns out I had a 3/4" one on there - I have no idea why!
- Dodgy fuel hoses renewed.
- Heater valve renewed and a couple of random water weeps sorted.
- Oil and filter changed.
- Gearbox and diff oils checked and ok.

Lose:
- LH trunnion is well knackered  :(.  Clearly my MoT man has no idea how to test them!
- Wipers very unenthusiastic on low speed and even slower on high.....

Sorted the Vitesse wipers (I hope).  Still need to get and fit the trunnion......  It drives nicely.

Balanced the prop on "Plan B" (aka PI) with the help of a couple of jubilee clips - worked a treat.  Still can't get the last bit of air out of the clutch hydraulics on the PI  :(

Back on topic

got to replace both track rod ends and steering column uj/joint is sloppy and being upgraded to a ford escort solid style uj for more direct steering feel.
also pop in a set of Mintex 1155 pads and troil me onions.

Wash and  ahem polish the GT :B :B :B

Then fit Rally plates and good to go after making an offering to the gods of reliability.

Car 16, Stag:

Diff coming out today. Hoping to take to Stafford this w/e for Mike Papworth to have a look at.

Header tank installation to be designed, procured & installed.

Refurbished alternator to be collected & fitted.

Broken, dismantled hood frame to be repaired. Hopefully collecting useable spare parts at Stafford

Header tank prototype - FAIL - due to mounting difficulties.  May have to procure ready made item.

Plus a very long list of small, insignificant "nicety" jobs to do :-/

Diff back from Mike P - result, gears OK, just needed restting. Now bolted up back in car after gargantuan singlehanded spannering session yesterday (where are you when I need you Colin!).  Only one diff shaped bruise on the chest  :-/  Filled with oil but untested.
Small welding repair required to n/s/r floorpan where subframe mounting strap bolts through - doh!

Driveshaft splines & UJ's greased.

Parcel from LD Parts arrived contents including rear brake shoes, oil pump o-ring kit, exhaust clamps, spare fuel pump etc.  New brake shoes fitted one side.

Hood frame header back from blasting, happily very sound. Minor welding repairs carried out and sent back to blasters again - latest news blasting machine broken so no hope of return today - boo!

Still lots of little things to do . . . .

I was doing a bit of final checking of stuff on the Spitfire that I hadn't already replaced/greased/oiled/adjusted/etc., and decided to have a look in the carb float chambers to see if there was any sediment in there.  This is what I found in one of them.

Is this "last minute preventative maintenance" or what?
