Beans
mmm ... one way or another that reminds me of the Flintstones ::)Don't know if that's good, certainly way to early for mr. Cook to have his car ready :P
SteveJP
Had a good shakedown run last night to the Driver's meeting at The Plough, 170 miles overall, should have been shorter but various overnight junction closures on the M25 conspired to extend the trip! - no significant problems, although there seems to be a bit of resonance from the exhaust at about 3000 revs- must check the mountings. Still got an annoying drip from the windscreen surround despite new seal and mastic under the finisher. Why does it always seem to land in my lap!Following the drivers briefing , have now turned my attention to whats in the boot and have decided to rationalise the toolkit and reduce its weight! mikeyb
Mass cleaning of Stag engine components continues, had to go to work tonight, so 8 pistons came with me ;)Subframes etc all gritblasted and painted, but had a setback with the diff - car was fitted with a knackered 2.5 PI diff, found a spare Stag diff under the heating oil tank of all places! Goodness knows how long it had been there - at least 15 years me-thinks! Popped the backplate off and cleaned out the inside. Wirebrushed the corroded ally backplate and found a hole - doh!Took the backplate off the PI diff to swap over and much to my annoyance the holes didn't line up on the Stag one - bugger!S/hand backplate in the post! Tim Bancroft
Grey car booked for its MOT on Tuesday.Only issues could be arb components, have ordered new links and bushes. So as I understand the weekend is gonna be nice, looks like it will be busy.New list:Wheel bearingsChange brake padsARBHornFuel pipeAccelerator pedal and linkeageAttempt to get the car to look better: Polish!Oil ChangeValve clearancesIf the car fails the MOT, which I do not think will happen I will use the GT6. The little car did 300 miles on Monday night and Tuesday with no issues. Going very well.
Jason
Well my mental preparation is nearly complete, I am tanned, fatter than usual and sporting some lovely insect bites. Just a flight to Frankfurt and then home from there overnight tonight - Heathrow at 8am tomorrow :-) Then it's into the garage for some mad work on the Vitesse to tidy up those endless little jobs. Phil Wright
Mine started whistling last light on the way home from work, so I reckon i've got an air leak. Seems to be coming from the inlet manifold, but i'm not sure where. Other than that i'm gonna take out my lowering block, change coolant, sort out a few electrical gremlins, and sort out the stone chips on the front end....... Sounds easy if you say it quick :)

mikeyb
I've had whistling alternators before!More Stag progress today - RH head now fully assembled too. Made up some re-inforcment for the diff quill shaft housing, mate with big TIG will weld it up over the weekend. Another big (expensive) parcel of bits arrived today, including CV joint prop and supergill rad. The core is amazingly thicker than mine, but still within the same width of the tanks - increases cooling system capacity by approx 1.5L I'm told!On 12h day shifts Sat/Sun, crank and various brake/clutch cylinders going with me for polishing/overhaul! James
Where did you get your CV prop from Mike? Has it got a CV at both ends?
mikeyb
CV's at both ends, bought from E J Ward, near Lutterworth. Cost £118 plus the VAT. The Stag has always had a vibration that builds up from 70 mph, given my high workload and tight timescale, it seemed a sensible and quick option against spending time/money overhauling the old one!Their number is 0116 279 9060. I recommend them highly!RgdsMike!
James
Cheaper than Witor...Reason I ask is that Witor is stopping selling these because he's been having problems with them - said that the solution is a CV on one end and UJ on the other.I went with a reconed one for about £60 on my saloon.
mikeyb
That's a good price, where was that from? The reasons I didn't go recon were basd around the fact that the nearest place I know of is near Heathrow - hour and 3/4 trip each way, round trip of approx 200 miles I guess. By the time I have gone there twice (once to deliver, then to collect) I reckon I would have blown more than £65 on fuel and lost two half days of prime garage time in the process!Do you know what the probs were? EJW said they have sold quite a lot of them with no bad feedback.Unless the problem is instantaneous, I guess the 10CR will prove to be it's shakedown anyway! Tim Bancroft
Mike,Interesting stuff about CV shafts.I was talking to James Shackford about these the other day, James has had issues with these on his mk1 Pi. Never heard of EJ Ward before, are they Stag specialists? If not are they prop specialists? That price seems good.I presume that the company near Heathrow is Propshaft Services, i have used them for years, very good and quick.Remember I live just down the road from them and could help with collection etc in the future. James
I think it was only £60 from Witor... I try to forget prices :)Of course it was a saloon one not a Stag...
mikeyb
Thanks for the offer Tim - if I had "project managed" a bit better, then I might of had the time to take you up on that!EJ Ward are long established Stag specialists, have had only good recommendation when I was enquiring about them! So far so good! I'm trying to forget prices too James, costs are really mounting up now! :(
